Cambodia Gambling Dens
September 18th, 2022 by Kirsten

There is a captivating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just over the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall wagering is against the law. Eight casinos are established in a generally tiny area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent destination, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few controls constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; however, financing sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and even though visas are apparently required to pass, there are means around this, as is true of most borders.

The original Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat gambling hall, contains one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and sixty tables. The Naga gambling hall is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are one hundred and fifty slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred one armed bandits and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and sixty six of the common table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational resort and hotel complex that highlights a number of luxuries accompanying the gambling hall, which contains ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and 88 tables.
