Cambodia Casinos
June 15th, 2021 by Kirsten

There is an interesting background to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just over the border from neighboring Thailand, where casino betting is against the law. Eight gambling dens are established in a generally tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent destination, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal capital acquired from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of controls requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; however, financing sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 17:00, and though visas are apparently needed to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.

The first Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary boat casino, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machine games and sixty tables. The Naga casino is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred one armed bandits and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the normal table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel compound that features numerous comforts aside from the gambling den, which houses ten thousand square feet of 130 slot machines and 88 gaming tables.
