Cambodia Gambling Halls
February 18th, 2026 by Kirsten

There is an appealing background to the Cambodia casinos that lie just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which casino wagering is banned. Eight gambling dens are established in a relatively tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in a prime destination, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing capital accrued from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of restrictions requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; still, financing sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are apparently needed to cross, there are methods around this, as is true of many borders.

The first Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship gambling den, features 150 slot machines and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machine games and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the familiar gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight casinos in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive resort and hotel compound that features many comforts on top of the gambling den, which offers ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and eighty eight tables.
