Cambodia Gambling Dens
Nov 7th, 2025 by Kirsten

There is an interesting history to the Cambodia casinos that lie just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, where gambling den gambling is banned. Eight casinos are based in a generally small location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect area, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a few restrictions constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; although, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to pass, there are methods around this, as is accurate of most border crossings.

The initial Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked bateau casino, features one hundred and fifty slots and sixty tables. The Naga casino is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slots and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slots and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight casinos in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around vacation and hotel building that contains a number of amenities accompanying the casino, which contains 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slot machines and eighty eight tables.
